Pallas in Mythology, Pallas Athena in Mythology

In Greek mythology, Pallas was the daughter of Triton, Poseidon’s son and the messenger of the sea. Triton raised Athena as a foster child alongside Pallas, born fully armed from Zeus’ forehead. The sea god taught both females how to fight. Pallas and Athena sparred with spears during a sporting festival, with the victor being the one who disarmed her opponent. Athena had the upper hand at the beginning of the conflict until Pallas took control. Zeus, who was present, distracted Pallas with the Aegis, which she had previously shown interest in, fearing losing his daughter. Pallas froze in astonishment when Athena accidentally wounded her as she expected her to dodge. Out of anguish and regret, she created the palladium, a statue in the likeness of Pallas, and wrapped the Aegis, which she had feared, over its breast, which Zeus erected and cherished. Thus, Athena acquired the name Pallas as a memorial to her late companion. This story of Athena and Pallas inspired a yearly celebration to honor the goddess in Libya. Herodotus discusses this practice in a passage.

Pallas Athena Asteroid, Pallas Athena Planet, Pallas Asteroid, Pallas Planet

Pallas, also known as Pallas Athena, is one of the four major asteroids in your natal chart, including Ceres, Juno, and Chiron. These asteroids cover a subtle and lesser-known area of our natal charts, revealing aspects of our inner nature that many astrologers overlook. Unfortunately, these cues are typically neglected because they represent a considerably more raw, unedited side of yourself. Asteroids like Pallas reveal aspects of your personality that might otherwise be hidden.
Pallas (minor-planet designation: 2 Pallas) is the second found Asteroid after 1 Ceres. Its mineral composition is thought to be similar to that of carbonaceous chondrite meteorites, but it is significantly less hydrated than Ceres. It is the third-largest Asteroid in the Solar System in terms of volume and mass, and it is most likely a remnant protoplanet. It has a group that is 79% that of 4 Vesta and 22% that of Ceres, accounting for an estimated 7% of the asteroid belt’s mass. Its volume is thought to be comparable to that of a sphere 505–520 kilometers (314–323 miles) in diameter, or 90–96 percent of Vesta’s mass.
During the Solar System’s planetary formation era, objects grew in size through an accretion process to roughly the size of Pallas. Most of these ‘protoplanets’ were integrated into forming larger bodies that eventually became planets, while some were expelled or destroyed in collisions with the planets. Pallas, Vesta, and Ceres appear to be the only intact bodies that have survived this early stage of planet formation within Neptune’s orbit.
On March 28, 1802, Pallas by German astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Matthäus Olbers and other asteroids were classified as planets in the early nineteenth century. However, the discovery of numerous asteroids separated minor planets from major planets after 1845. The realization in the 1950s that such small bodies did not form in the same way as (other) planets led to the gradual abandonment of the term minor planet’ in favor of ‘asteroid’ (or, for larger bodies such as Pallas, ‘planetoid’). Unfortunately, Pallas’ orbit is exceptionally sharply inclined to the asteroid belt plane, rendering it inaccessible to spacecraft, and its orbital eccentricity is nearly as great as Pluto’s.
